Closing Ceremony of the 46th Arab Deaf Week of the Bahrain Deaf Association
In the presence of MP Sayed Falah Hashem, the Bahrain Deaf Society held the closing ceremony of the 46th Arab Deaf Week under the slogan "Tackling unemployment among the deaf", which was held from 20-27 April. The Vice-Chairman of the Association’s Board of Directors, Chairman of the Deaf Week Committee, and Chairman of the Translators’ Committee, Mr. Hassan Al-Ghuraifi, stated that the week’s program included broadcasting a short film for the Association on the work presented by the Vice-President, Mr. Al-Ghuraifi, as well as a lecture on the method of preparing a CV presented by the coach, Mr. Muhammad Al-Banna on 4/21. /2021, in which he discussed the importance of preparing a CV, the steps for preparing it, and the information it should contain in an interactive atmosphere. The participants indicated that they benefited from the valuable lecture.
Then a lecture on the skills of passing a job interview, which was held on April 24, presented by Yousef Al Sharaf. The valuable lecture included tips for preparing for a job interview and how to pass it successfully with examples of possible questions during the interview.
The Bahrain Deaf Society also hosted MP Falah Hashem on the evening of Sunday, April 25, 2021, as part of the activities of the Deaf Week, which is held under the slogan of addressing unemployment among the deaf, and it is one of the most important topics that require community support to enable the deaf to obtain suitable jobs to enable them to live a decent life. Based on the objectives of the Bahrain Deaf Society in supporting and upgrading the deaf in various fields of skill, culture and life, the meeting highlighted the legislation related to the deaf category and the need to add to it and enact new legislation in line with their needs, especially in the field of training, vocational rehabilitation and employment, and the provision of indicative translation in the field of Health care, higher education, and various government services
During the meeting, in which a number of the association's deaf employees participated, they were listened to and their needs and the challenges they face.
Note that all the lectures were presented via the Zoom platform, and they were attended from inside and outside Bahrain. The meetings were moderated by a. Mahdi Al-Naimi and the indicative translation alternately by a. Fatima Al-Sabbagh, Prof. Zainab Al-Aswad, a. Al-Jufairi Kindergarten. A number of films and interviews with the deaf at work sites prepared by the association for this occasion were shown through the association’s media channels on April 26, 2021 AD.
At the closing ceremony, the association’s president, Mr. Aqeel Ali, thanked the chairman and members of the Arab Deaf Week Committee, and also thanked the supporters, who are Professor Lab Café, Al-Ayyam newspaper, the National Association for Education and Training Support and the Creative Lab.
At the conclusion of the activities of the forty-sixth Arab Deaf Week, the Bahrain Deaf Society recommended the importance of providing vocational training and employment opportunities for the deaf, following up on the implementation and drawing up legislative decisions in line with their needs, and supporting deaf people’s access to higher education by providing indicative translation for students, and called on various community organizations to activate Community participation and social responsibility in empowering the deaf and giving them opportunities to obtain suitable jobs.
