Ms. Badriya Al Marzooq, a member of the Board of Directors of Bahrain Women Union, participated in Hurra Coalition’s 2026 Annual Meeting, held in Soma Bay, the Arab Republic of Egypt, from 6 to 8 October 2026. The meeting brought together representatives of institutions and associations working on women’s and family issues, justice, and equality from several Arab countries.
The meeting served as a platform for exchanging Arab expertise and experiences and discussing key issues and challenges related to women’s and family rights. It also reviewed national advocacy efforts, discussed developments in personal status laws and wives’ financial rights, examined gaps in the Coalition’s work in 2026, and explored future plans and activities for 2027, while seeking to strengthen partnerships and cooperation among member institutions.
The meeting also featured presentations of papers and experiences from several Arab countries, including Bahrain, Egypt, Lebanon, Palestine, Jordan, Tunisia, Algeria, and Morocco. These contributions addressed women’s and family issues within different legal and social contexts, providing opportunities to exchange perspectives, discuss the development of joint initiatives, and strengthen mechanisms for protecting the rights of women and girls.
During the meeting, Ms. Badriya Al Marzooq delivered an intervention on the issue of early marriage in the Kingdom of Bahrain. She highlighted the importance of addressing this issue from a women’s and girls’ rights perspective, emphasizing the need to raise public awareness of its social, family, and legal implications, support measures aimed at protecting girls and safeguarding their rights, and strengthen institutional and community cooperation to address related challenges.
This participation reflects the importance of bringing Bahrain’s experience to Arab dialogues on women’s and family issues, exchanging knowledge and expertise, and supporting joint efforts to uphold women’s rights and promote justice and equality across Arab societies.
