A new campaign to address the problem of stray dogs

Thamer Tayfour:
The Deputy Chief of Public Security announced on Wednesday that, based on a number of complaints received by police directorates and stations in the governorates about the spread of stray dogs and other animals, which could pose a threat to the safety of citizens and residents in some residential areas, preparations are currently underway to hold a coordination meeting to develop an organizational framework and issue instructions. In order to address the problem and reduce its repercussions.

The Bahrain Cats and Pets Association had a number of proposals to eliminate the phenomenon of stray dogs, and expressed its concern about the exacerbation of the problem of stray dogs in some areas and villages of Bahrain. The Ministry of Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning says that the presence of stray dogs at the required level preserves the environmental balance, as any imbalance in this balance will lead to the spread of rodents and reptiles because there is no one to kill them.

The ministry confirmed to Al-Watan that there is no statistics on the number of stray dogs spread, but according to the statistics of the dogs caught since the start of operations on January 22, 2019, there were only 2,008 dogs.
And the Ministry of Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning indicated that after the stray dogs are caught and collected from residential neighborhoods, they are surgically sterilized, to control their numbers at the natural level to maintain the required environmental balance.

The municipalities revealed that after the surgical castration of dogs is completed, they will be resettled in non-residential industrial neighborhoods temporarily until a petting zoo is established, in which stray dogs will be resettled.
