The Bahrain Association for Pets and Cats celebrated Thursday evening (May 25, 2017) the completion of the installation of more than 500 electronic chips inside animals owned mostly by dogs, at the Atlantis Sports Complex in Damistan. This experiment aims to facilitate obtaining information about these animals and to identify their owners if they are found anywhere. The association called for the generalization of the experiment, and for the official authorities to require the presence of an electronic chip for all pets.
On this occasion, the president of the association, Hana Kanoo, expressed her happiness with this work, which the association bore its costs in support of amateurs and breeders, noting that this would contribute to establishing a correct information base for animals in accordance with international laws. Stressing that the association is proactive in registering dogs and animals, when it registered them in the national registry in 2006, which includes information about them and their ownership.
She explained in an interview with Al-Wasat that “this small chip is placed under the skin of the animal and contains a serial number through which the identity of the owner of the animal can be identified in the event of its theft or loss. This chip also makes the issue of knowing the owner easy in the event that this animal caused an accident, or was found dead, or any of the matters that require knowing the owner, whether to hold him accountable or to return the animal to him.
Kanoo added, “I wish the official authorities to cooperate and join hands with the association, which has gained international experience in this field, and to work to provide a compulsory official license for each animal for a nominal annual fee. I also wish the authorities concerned with the export and import of animals to require the presence of this chip to complete the procedures, so that there is an identification and information record for each animal entering or leaving the Kingdom.
For his part, Secretary Muhammad Al-Mass said that the association has sought help from the experiences of some leading countries in the field of placing electronic chips in animals and enacting appropriate laws for their breeding. And that the members of the association gained their experience from direct contact with international experts, taking certificates from them, and conducting studies.
Al-Mass praised the participation of the Producers Club, headed by Youssef Mohammed Al-Sakran, in the event, expressing his hope that this experience would be generalized in Bahrain and all countries of the Cooperation Council, because of its - according to him - positive effects on the breeding and organization of domestic animals, stressing the association's readiness to cooperate with any party in this regard. matter.
